African Union condemns Palestinian “extermination”

African Union condemns violence against Palestinians at Addis Ababa summit.

The African Union opened its 39th summit with a powerful condemnation of the ongoing violence in Gaza, with its commission chair demanding an end to the “extermination” of the Palestinian people. However, the two-day gathering in Addis Ababa was just as focused on the conflicts burning in its own backyard. From the devastating war in Sudan to the escalating crisis in the eastern DRC, leaders across Africa are grappling with a continent on edge. The summit also spotlighted water security and governance challenges shaping the continent’s future. Addressing leaders, Antonio Guterres pushed for a permanent African seat on the UN Security Council, calling the continent’s lack of one indefensible in today’s world.
