Once hailed as a futuristic beacon powered by cryptocurrency and renewable energy, Akon City never progressed beyond the construction of a single incomplete reception building. With its curvaceous and avant-garde design, many compared the city to the fictional city of Wakanda in Marvel movies. However, after years of delays and financial missteps, the Senegalese government recently confirmed the project’s end, citing stalled construction and funding shortfalls. Akon’s Akoin cryptocurrency, central to the vision, also struggled legally and financially. Despite the setback, officials have struck a new deal with the artist for a more realistic and achievable development.
