Amazon’s Project Kuiper has secured regulatory approval to enter Nigeria’s broadband market, with a landing permit allowing operations to begin in 2026. Granted by the Nigerian Communications Commission, the seven-year license allows Kuiper to deploy its low-Earth orbit satellites and offer high-speed internet services nationwide. The move positions Amazon as a direct challenger to Starlink, ending its near-monopoly and injecting fresh competition into Nigeria’s satellite internet space. With approval covering fixed, mobile, and maritime satellite services, Kuiper is targeting households, businesses, and critical infrastructure alike. For Nigeria, the decision signals openness to next-generation connectivity, promising faster speeds, wider coverage, and more competitive pricing in one of Africa’s largest underserved digital markets.
