China is set to establish electric vehicle (EV) factories in Nigeria, marking a significant stride in deepening economic ties between the two nations. This initiative was unveiled following a bilateral meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, and China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai. During the meeting, Dunhai emphasized stronger collaboration between both countries, particularly within the solid minerals sector. The proposed factories aim to harness Nigeria’s abundant mineral resources, particularly lithium, essential for EV batteries, thereby promoting local value addition and industrial growth. This development aligns with Nigeria’s broader strategy to diversify its economy, including through better utilization of its mineral wealth.
