Patrice Motsepe, head of African football, is embarking on a high-stakes diplomatic tour. Nearly one month after CAF shocked the continent by stripping Senegal of its AFCON title and awarding it to Morocco, the president is visiting both nations to promote unity. The controversy erupted when Senegal walked off the pitch after a late penalty call for Morocco. CAF cited field-exit regulations to hand Morocco a 3-0 victory, a decision Senegal has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Dakar has even called for a corruption investigation into the governing body. Motsepe insists he will respect the court’s final ruling, but hopes to ease tensions and reaffirm cooperation with his visit.
