Africa’s digital transformation is accelerating—and the continent’s governments are increasingly focused on keeping their data secure, local, and sovereign. Technology company Cassava Technologies has introduced a new solution designed to help make that possible.
The company recently unveiled its National Sovereign Cloud (NSC) platform, a digital infrastructure framework that enables African governments to deploy artificial intelligence–enabled public services while ensuring data remains governed within national borders.
The platform combines several core technologies into one ecosystem. These include cloud computing, cybersecurity services, AI-ready compute infrastructure, and locally trained AI language models. The system is designed to help governments build secure national platforms that support everything from digital public services to economic innovation.
A key focus of the initiative is developing AI tools tailored for African realities. The NSC framework supports local-language AI models, allowing governments to deploy conversational AI that can interact with citizens in widely spoken African languages. This could help improve access to government services while strengthening engagement between public institutions and communities.
Beyond infrastructure, Cassava also plans to support digital skills development. Through an accompanying AI Institute, the company aims to train developers, enterprises, and public-sector professionals, helping ensure African economies can fully participate in the global digital economy.
The strategy also includes specialized infrastructure for payments and remittances, areas critical to financial inclusion across the continent. By integrating AI with financial systems, governments may be able to expand access to digital financial services while improving efficiency and transparency.
