The Democratic Alliance (DA) has pulled out of South Africa’s upcoming National Dialogue, citing President Cyril Ramaphosa’s failure to act against African National Congress (ANC) ministers accused of corruption. The National Dialogue is an ANC-led initiative that seeks to address national issues, such as unemployment and gender-based violence. Alongside this, the DA also announced it will vote against budget allocations for departments led by implicated officials like Thembi Simelane and Nobuhle Nkabane. This move follows the dismissal of DA Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield, which the party views as a breach of the agreed Government of National Unity framework. While the DA remains in the coalition government to maintain stability, it is using budget votes as leverage for accountability.
