Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery is set to roll out 4,000 natural gas-powered trucks on August 15 in a $469.9 million investment aimed at transforming local fuel distribution. The trucks will enable direct supply of refined products to retailers, manufacturers, telecommunications firms, and other major consumers, reducing reliance on middlemen. This strategic play positions Dangote to control the entire supply chain from refining to delivery, potentially lowering costs while disrupting Nigeria’s fuel market. By embracing gas-powered vehicles, the company is also aligning with Nigeria’s push for alternative fuels after last year’s controversial removal of the petrol subsidy. However, nationwide adoption of gas remains slow despite rising fuel prices.
