The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ebola outbreak has surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases, including 254 deaths, as health authorities struggle to contain the spread of the virus in the country’s conflict-affected east. Officials reported 1,003 confirmed infections and warned that the true scale of the outbreak may be significantly higher. Congo’s Ministry of Health reported that 100 patients have recovered so far, while 365 remain hospitalized or isolated. Contact tracing remains a major obstacle, with only 55% coverage achieved and more than 35,000 contacts still requiring follow-up. Ongoing attacks by armed groups and population displacement have complicated response efforts, limiting access to affected communities. Health officials say the source of the outbreak remains unknown and fear the disease continues to spread faster than containment measures can keep pace.
