The South African Reserve Bank said the tariffs adversely affected value-added exports, placing heavy pressure on the country’s automotive sector. Meanwhile, China remains South Africa’s largest export destination. Beijing recently strengthened its economic influence in Africa through a new tariff-free trade arrangement that took effect this month. Analysts say Germany’s new rank reflects growing uncertainty surrounding US trade policy and worsening diplomatic tensions between Washington and Pretoria. They note that exporters are increasingly seeking more stable international markets.
