The Noradala fishing festival, held annually in Norassoba, Upper Guinea, marks the onset of the rainy season and has been a cherished tradition for over seven centuries. Thousands of amateur fishermen gather at the lagoon, forming a cordon to control access and ensure a harmonious event. Village elder Bangaly Traoré emphasizes its significance, stating that major events like weddings and baptisms are organized around it. However, concerns are rising as the lagoon shrinks annually and fish stocks dwindle. Despite these challenges, the community remains committed to preserving this cultural heritage, with hopes for a more bountiful catch in the coming years.
