How Iran-Israel Conflict Could Rock Africa’s Stability

As tensions continue to simmer between Israel and Iran, European analysts warn that ripple effects could destabilize already fragile regions in Africa, particularly the Horn of Africa. Experts highlight the growing nexus between Iranian-backed Houthi rebels and Al-Shabab militants, which threatens to inflame conflicts in Somalia, Sudan, and beyond. With both Iran and Israel strategically invested in the Red Sea corridor, even indirect fallout—like disrupted trade and surging oil prices—could widen “security gaps” across Africa. Meanwhile, Qatar’s key mediating role in the DR Congo–Rwanda conflict may weaken amid regional threats. And in the Sahel, Iran’s retreat could leave military-led states with fewer alternatives to Western partners.
