Set on Kenya’s dramatic Laikipia Plateau, &Beyond Suyian Lodge is a striking study in site-responsive design. Built within the 17,000-hectare Suyian Conservancy, the lodge blends seamlessly into its surroundings using volcanic stone, local soil, and grassed rooftops that echo the landscape’s textures. Its domed suites and sculptural main lodge mirror nearby rock formations, while interiors flip those forms inward with vaulted ceilings, polished concrete, and a calm, pared-back palette. Eschewing luxury clichés, the designers leaned into restraint, craftsmanship, and place, commissioning most furnishings locally. The result is a serene yet celebratory retreat where architecture, culture, and environment exist in thoughtful, natural dialogue.
