American artist Kehinde Wiley unveiled his exhibition A Maze of Power at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat, Morocco. The series features large-format portraits of African leaders, including former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, Madagascar’s former President Hery Rajaonarimampianina, and Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara. Wiley employs classical European portraiture techniques to explore the aesthetics and symbolism of political power. The exhibition, previously shown in Paris and Dakar, aligns with Morocco’s efforts to become a hub for African art ahead of the opening of the Museum of the African Continent.
