President William Ruto has officially announced the finalization of a major trade agreement with China, signaling a new chapter in East African commerce. While specific details remain under wraps, this milestone follows a preliminary pact aimed at granting 98% of Kenyan exports duty-free entry into the vast Chinese market. This strategic move is part of Ruto’s broader vision to balance a trade relationship that has historically favored Beijing. It also builds on recent cooperation agreements signed during Ruto’s visit to Beijing, highlighting Nairobi’s growing engagement with Asia’s largest economy. By securing this access, Kenya aims to transform its export landscape and strengthen its position as a key economic hub.
