Libya’s prime minister overhauls government

Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah has reshuffled his government, replacing roughly 10 of 27 ministers in a bid to improve service delivery and ease regional tensions that have strained relations with key institutional allies. The restructuring successfully coaxed key rivals—Presidential Council head Mohamed al-Menfi and High State Council head Mohamed Takala—back to the table, temporarily smoothing over fractured regional divides. With this move, Dbeibah ensures his political survival, pacifying internal rivals while keeping a firm grip on essential security and diplomatic ministries. However, the development doesn’t necessarily bode well for ordinary Libyans, especially if it doesn’t lead to truly improved governance. In the long term, this tactical realignment buys the Tripoli government crucial stability, though it risks masking Libya’s deep institutional fractures instead of advancing long-delayed national elections.
