Mozambique launches new graphite processing plant

Mozambique official speaking at UN about $20B gas project revival.

Mozambique has taken a major step up the global battery supply chain with the launch of a Chinese-owned graphite processing plant, signaling a shift from raw exports to value-added production. President Daniel Chapo opened the 200,000-ton-per-year facility in Niassa province, calling it a milestone that places Mozambique firmly on the world’s industrial map. Graphite, a critical material for electric vehicles and electronics, is in soaring demand, and Mozambique already ranks among the world’s top producers. Backed by a $200 million investment from China’s DH Mining, the project has already created hundreds of jobs, with thousands more expected. As global competition for battery minerals intensifies, Mozambique is positioning itself as a key industrial processor in the global energy transition.
