Namibia to Boost Sulphuric Acid Output as Critical Mineral Sector Grows

8

Namibia is ramping up sulphuric acid production to meet the demands of its growing critical minerals sector. Green Metals Refining will invest $59 million in the first phase of a Walvis Bay plant capable of producing 175,000 metric tons annually, with plans to scale output to 720,000 tons by 2027. Meanwhile, Vedanta plans to restart its Skorpion zinc plant within six months, adding 1,000 tons a day. This expanded domestic production will end Namibia’s status as a net importer, securing a vital supply for its mines and solidifying its position as a leader in the green energy sector. With eight active projects and status as the world’s third-largest uranium producer, Namibia is positioning itself as a key player in supplying materials vital for global clean energy technologies.
