New Study Claims Three Years Remain to Prevent Worst Climate Change Effects

A new climate report has issued a stark warning: the world has less than three years to stay within the 1.5°C global warming limit and avoid catastrophic consequences. Despite the urgency, only 25 out of 197 countries, just 20% of global emissions, have submitted updated climate plans outlining how they intend to cut greenhouse gas emissions ahead of COP30. Meanwhile, Africa, already facing its deadliest climate crisis in over a decade, remains highly vulnerable. Even so, only Somalia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia have submitted their own climate plans. Scientists warn that governments’ efforts fall short of the scale of the danger climate change poses. They recommend stronger global cooperation, particularly from G20 nations, and for countries to have better access to real-time climate data to accelerate mitigation efforts.
