Nigeria’s Dangote refinery has achieved a major breakthrough by exporting its first petrol shipment to the United States, proving its ability to produce fuel that fulfills stringent US fuel standards. The milestone cargo of about 320,000 barrels, purchased by trader Vitol from Mocoh Oil, was transported on the tanker Gemini Pearl and delivered to Sunoco’s New Jersey facility. This marks a turning point for the 650,000-barrel-per-day plant, which has faced delays but is now reshaping global energy flows. With additional shipments already scheduled, the refinery is not only cutting Nigeria’s reliance on fuel imports but also positioning the country as a new player in international markets, signaling a shift in regional trade dynamics.
