Nigeria has unveiled the Vanquisher, a locally manufactured light armored personnel carrier, in a major step toward reducing reliance on foreign military imports. The vehicles were developed by the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria in partnership with Vanquish Industries, with 15 units formally handed over to the army. The Vanquisher is built on a modified Toyota Land Cruiser platform and tailored for the country’s counter-insurgency operations. At the same time, the country also received additional Dagger APCs from French firm Arquus. The dual-track strategy balances domestic production with strategic foreign partnerships, allowing the military to scale capabilities quickly. Analysts suggest that if sustained, this approach could position Nigeria as an emerging defense supplier to other African nations facing similar security threats, potentially strengthening national sovereignty while creating industrial opportunities.
