Nigeria is taking a significant step toward fixing one of its most persistent economic headaches. The country’s National Single Window—a centralized digital platform designed to dramatically reduce bureaucratic delays for importers and exporters—is launching its first phase, starting with one shipping line and one port. The urgency is real: bringing goods from Europe to Lagos warehouses currently costs five times higher than comparable routes in South Africa and three times higher than those in Ghana. Trade Minister Jumoke Oduwole describes the platform as a “game changer” with potential multiplier effects on foreign exchange earnings. The launch complements a $1 billion UK-Nigeria port redevelopment finance deal announced last week and sits squarely within President Tinubu’s broader economic reform agenda.
