Nigeria Launches Initiative to Expand Internet Access Nationwide

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched the National Broadband Alliance for Nigeria (NBAN), a collaborative initiative to boost internet penetration from 44% in December 2024 to 70% by 2025. The initiative fosters partnerships among state governments, telecom operators, and infrastructure companies, and will kick off with a pilot program in eight states. Aligned with the National Broadband Plan and the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s Strategic Blueprint, NBAN targets key sectors—schools, healthcare facilities, religious centers, and markets—to create a sustainable broadband ecosystem. The initiative sets ambitious goals, including achieving minimum data speeds of 25 Mbps in urban areas and 10 Mbps in rural areas and increasing broadband investments by 300–500% by 2027.
