South Africa and Nigeria have officially joined the ranks of the world’s top 20 countries for cybercrime complaints, according to the latest FBI data. The findings arrive as global cybercrime losses hit a staggering record of $20.8 billion—a 26% spike from the previous year—with over one million complaints logged worldwide. While both nations reported fewer complaints than Canada, India, and Japan, analysts say their appearance on the list reflects the vulnerabilities that come with rapid digital and financial growth. Notably, both nations were removed from a global financial crime watch list in October, signaling progress in efforts against illicit money flows even as cyber threats grow more sophisticated.
