Nigeria’s internet usage reached a record 4.06 million terabytes in the first quarter of 2026, surpassing the previous high of 3.86 million terabytes recorded in late 2025. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), this represents the highest usage ever tracked, nearly doubling average monthly consumption rates recorded three years ago. March alone accounted for 1.42 million terabytes, averaging nearly 45,900 terabytes daily. The surge is driven by heavy investment in telecom infrastructure, including fiber networks, undersea cables, and towers. Faster networks are key to the increase in digital demand—4G now accounts for nearly 54% of connections, and 5G, though at just 4.2%, supports heavy streaming in major cities.
