Nigeria’s defense tech sector is gaining momentum despite significant challenges. Three startups—Kifta Technologies, Proforce Defence Limited, and Terrahaptix—are pioneering advancements in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), armored vehicles, and drones. Kifta, founded in 2018, focuses on surveillance systems, including UAVs and smart glasses capable of facial and license plate recognition. Proforce, Nigeria’s first defense manufacturer, creates locally produced armored vehicles, combat helmets, and ballistic vests. Terrahaptix, established in 2023, is making strides in the commercial drone industry, securing major contracts. All three companies serve local and international clients. While Nigeria faces funding and infrastructure issues, these companies show immense potential, possibly setting the stage for a thriving defense tech industry in Africa.
