A new Kenyan intelligence report has revealed that over 1,000 Kenyans have been deceptively recruited to fight for Russia in Ukraine. Rogue employment agencies are targeting former military personnel, police officers, and desperate civilians aged 25-50 with promises of monthly salaries around $2,000, substantial bonuses, and eventual Russian citizenship. The operation allegedly involves corrupt government officials from immigration, criminal investigations, and employment agencies who help recruits evade airport detection. Russia has allegedly suffered heavy casualties in its war against Ukraine, prompting it to recruit manpower from outside its borders, including Africa. However, the recruitment is not always transparent, with many recruits promised employment as drivers and guards before finding themselves on the frontlines. The pattern extends across Africa, with Ukraine reporting in November that over 1,400 fighters from 36 African nations were fighting for Russia.
