Kenya’s former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of orchestrating his impeachment and endangering his life. Speaking publicly after being discharged from Karen Hospital, where he was treated for a “life-threatening health condition,” Gachagua recounted alleged persecution by Ruto over the past year. He claimed his security had been withdrawn despite a court order temporarily halting his replacement, and accused the president of attempting to poison him on two occasions. Gachagua described his impeachment on October 17 as the culmination of a politically motivated campaign to oust him. He further alleged that Ruto used him to secure electoral support from the Mount Kenya region but never intended to work with him. Gachagua said he feared for his safety, urging Kenyans to hold Ruto accountable if anything happened to him or his family. The president has yet to respond to the allegations.
