Sudanese allies resist RSF’s political recognition

8

Sudanese armed groups allied with the national army have rejected any political settlement that treats the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as an equal to the state. In a statement, the Joint Force of Armed Movements in Darfur—which includes the Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement—reaffirmed its commitment to defending Sudan’s unity and denounced the RSF as a “foreign-backed militia.” The coalition urged citizens to support the army’s efforts to restore stability. This comes as the US pushes for a three-month humanitarian truce. The Sudanese government itself has set preconditions for talks, demanding the RSF withdraw from captured cities. With the RSF now controlling the entire Darfur region, this political stalemate deepens the crisis of a war that has already displaced millions.
