Once a symbol of Sudan’s rich cultural legacy, the National Museum in Khartoum now lies in ruins after two years of civil war. Rams, lions, Christian frescoes, and Nubian treasures have been looted or destroyed—many believed taken by RSF forces during their occupation of central Khartoum. Officials say tens of thousands of artefacts vanished, including a gold collar from King Talakhamani’s pyramid. While some treasures had been boxed for rehabilitation, this may have facilitated their removal. The museum’s wreckage, filled with shattered glass and bullet casings, now stands as a grim testament to cultural loss and a nation’s stolen identity.
