US Presses Ahead With Kenya Ebola Facility

The United States has continued preparations for an Ebola quarantine facility in Kenya despite court orders suspending construction and growing public opposition. Around 20 flights carrying medical equipment, technical specialists, engineers, and healthcare personnel have reportedly arrived at an air force base in Nanyuki, where the 50-bed facility is being built. The project is intended to quarantine Americans potentially exposed to Ebola outbreaks in East Africa, though no patients have been transferred. Critics argue the plan shifts health risks to Kenya, while supporters say it strengthens regional preparedness against future outbreaks. Diplomatic communications suggest concerns that President William Ruto underestimated public resistance, which comes amid broader economic frustrations and heightened political tensions across the country.
