Rwanda has inked a three-year partnership with Spain’s Atlético Madrid to promote its “Visit Rwanda” brand, expanding its high-profile presence in European football. The deal makes Rwanda the club’s official tourism and training partner, as well as the official coffee supplier. Atlético Madrid becomes the fourth European club to sign such an agreement with Rwanda, following similar agreements with Arsenal, PSG, and Bayern Munich. The announcement comes amid growing international scrutiny of Rwanda’s alleged support for rebels in eastern Congo, a claim Kigali denies. Congo has urged clubs to sever ties with Rwanda over the conflict, which has displaced over a million people. Despite the tensions, both nations recently held peace talks in the US, with an initial accord expected soon.
