The Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party, led by former President Jacob Zuma, has issued an ultimatum demanding President Cyril Ramaphosa resign by 9 a.m. on July 18, or face mass action, litigation, and a motion of no confidence. The party accuses Ramaphosa of violating the Constitution by appointing Professor Cachalia, who is not a cabinet or parliamentary member, as the Acting Minister of Police. The MK party also claimed the will of the electorate is being undermined, citing the African National Congress’s poor electoral showing and the formation of a Government of National Unity (GNU) as proof. Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela denounced the GNU as fraudulent and aligned with corruption, referencing explosive claims by General Mkhwanazi.
