Nearly a third of those wounded in Sudan’s ongoing civil war are women and children under 10, according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF). The conflict, which began in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has caused a severe humanitarian crisis, described as one of the worst in recent times. Because of the situation, MSF international president Christos Christou is calling for more international aid, emphasizing the dire conditions faced by civilians. Both warring factions have been accused of obstructing aid and targeting medical facilities. The conflict has led to significant displacement and acute food insecurity, with more than half of Sudan’s population at risk of famine. Christou urged a collective international response to address the escalating crisis and prevent the situation from degenerating into one of the worst famines of the 21st century.
