Ghana’s poverty rate falls again

Ghana is recording steady progress in the fight against poverty, with its multidimensional poverty rate falling for a third straight quarter, according to new data from the Ghana Statistical Service. The index, which tracks deprivation in health, education, employment, and basic living conditions, dropped from 23.9% in early 2025 to 21.9% by the third quarter. As a result, nearly one million people have moved out of poverty within a year, signaling modest but meaningful gains in living standards. However, officials caution that the core drivers of poverty remain unaddressed, with the greatest hardship still concentrated among households lacking formal education and other vulnerable groups. While the trend is positive, targeted, sustained efforts remain essential to ensure inclusive growth.
