Abundant Rains in Ivory Coast Point to Strong Cocoa Mid-Crop

3

Heavy rainfall across Ivory Coast’s cocoa-growing regions last week signals a promising end to the April-to-September mid-crop, according to farmers. The world’s top cocoa producer has entered its rainy season, with abundant showers expected to continue, particularly in areas like Soubre, Agboville, and Abengourou, which saw above-average rainfall. Farmers reported an abundance of large pods, ready for harvest in May and June, which should ensure an ample supply of good-quality cocoa beans. Despite the promising signs in most of the country’s cocoa-producing regions, some areas are experiencing below-average rainfall, potentially leading to a tighter supply. Nevertheless, farmers are optimistic as growing conditions improve, especially since the demand for beans is strong.
