Africa’s energy landscape is rapidly evolving, with natural gas emerging as a cornerstone for economic growth and energy security. The Africa Energy Indaba 2025, taking place from 4–6 March 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, will host the Africa Gas Forum, a pivotal platform to address opportunities, challenges, and innovations in the continent’s burgeoning gas industry.

The Africa Gas Forum is designed to bring together industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and technical experts to explore Africa’s immense untapped gas reserves and their role in driving sustainable development. From the transformative potential of Namibia and South Africa’s Orange Basin to the exploration of onshore opportunities in Zimbabwe and Namibia, the Forum will highlight key projects shaping the future of Africa’s gas sector.

Key Highlights of the Africa Gas Forum:

  • Exploration and Production Opportunities: Africa remains one of the least explored regions for natural gas. The Forum will spotlight significant basins such as the Orange Basin and other promising reserves in Zimbabwe and onshore Namibia, emphasizing their potential to meet both domestic and international energy demands.
  • Overcoming Gas Monetisation Challenges: Experts will discuss infrastructure deficits, regulatory frameworks, and innovative financing models to address barriers to monetising Africa’s gas reserves. Strategies for developing LNG export facilities and fostering regional energy trade will be central to the conversation.
  • Case Studies of Success: Delegates will gain insights from successful gas projects across Africa, including advancements in Mozambique, Egypt, and Nigeria, where robust policies and strategic investments have unlocked gas resources for economic and environmental benefits.

Africa’s Gas Potential in Numbers:

Africa holds over 620 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, accounting for approximately 7% of the world’s total. As global demand for cleaner energy sources rises, the continent’s gas production is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4% through 2030, positioning Africa as a significant player in the global gas market.

Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Africa Energy Indaba, remarked, “The Africa Gas Forum provides a dedicated space to explore the vast opportunities in Africa’s gas sector. It is a vital step toward unlocking the full potential of these resources to power sustainable development and economic transformation across the continent.”
