Dangote Refinery blames high prices for reduced crude inflows

1

Nigeria’s massive Dangote Refinery is pushing back against reports of operational troubles, stating that a recent reduction in crude oil intake is a deliberate price strategy, not a sign of failure. During a media tour, Edwin Devakumar, vice president of Dangote Industries, explained that the refinery is strategically adjusting crude purchases in response to high global prices and inventory management. He emphasized that the facility is designed for long, uninterrupted runs, even though it has undergone multiple maintenance rounds this year. According to him, such scheduled upkeep is normal and does not affect overall production. In a startling revelation, Devakumar also cited internal sabotage as a significant challenge, claiming to have documented over 20 deliberate attempts to damage equipment and start fires. However, these sabotage attempts were thwarted by the refinery’s advanced safety systems.
