In Zambia, a tragic malaria death in a remote clinic sparked Mwansa Chalo to launch Duniya Healthcare, a startup using tech to revolutionize medicine delivery. Africa imports 90% of its drugs, leading to higher costs and fragile supply chains. These factors, combined with poor transport infrastructure, mean that drugs sometimes take too long to reach the patients who need them. Duniya solves this problem by digitizing supply chains, connecting pharmacies in urban centers to 13 licensed wholesalers via a web platform. For rural health centers, bulk orders are aggregated and fulfilled using a shared logistics model. Duniya has already helped reduce drug costs in rural areas and prevent stockouts. Over the next three years, it plans to expand into Kenya and Uganda.
