Uganda has completed roughly three-quarters of the $5 billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), a vital link for exporting crude oil through Tanzania. This significant progress paves the way for oil production to begin in the second half of next year after nearly two decades of delays. The 1,443-kilometer pipeline, the world’s longest electrically heated crude pipeline, will connect Ugandan oilfields to Tanzania’s Tanga port, enabling exports from the $15 billion oil project jointly owned by TotalEnergies, CNOOC, and state petroleum firms. So far, $3.3 billion has been invested in the pipeline, while upstream developments at Tilenga and Kingfisher projects are 60% and 74% complete, paving the way for Uganda’s long-awaited oil production.
