After years of complaints about chaos and crowding, Egypt is reimagining the Giza Pyramids experience. A $30 million overhaul—seven years in the making—aims to transform the visitor experience with a new Great Gate, hop-on buses (cars have been banned), cleaner facilities, and fine dining at Khufu’s, a top-ranked restaurant with pyramid views. The revamp, led by Orascom Pyramids Entertainment, also sidelines aggressive camel and horse touts, making it safer and smoother for tourists. Launching officially on July 3, the project coincides with the opening of the $1 billion Grand Egyptian Museum. Together, they’re part of Egypt’s ambitious plan to double tourist arrivals to 30 million annually and put Giza back on the global tourism map. Early signs point to success, with April visitor numbers already up by almost 24%.
