In a thrilling spectacle at Paris’ Stade Charléty, Faith Kipyegon came closer than ever to making history by attempting to break the elusive four-minute mile. Supported by 13 pacers, a custom Nike suit, and high-tech shoes, she clocked a blistering 4:06.42—the fastest women’s mile ever run. Although the time won’t be officially recognized because it involved male pacers, it lowered the current world record, set by Kipyegon, by over a second. While she didn’t achieve her goal of becoming the first woman to run a mile in less than four minutes, Kipyegon remained undeterred, expressing determination to chase the record in future Diamond League events. A three-time Olympic gold medalist in the 1500m, her drive continues to inspire a new generation of runners.
