From Argentina to Nigeria: G-24 handover signals new era for developing nations

Nigeria has taken over the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) from Argentina, with its tenure set to begin on November 1, 2025. The G-24 is a prominent coalition of developing nations across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. It coordinates the countries’ positions on global financial and development issues. Speaking at the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings, Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso emphasized the country’s commitment to inclusive reform and equitable growth. He also highlighted plans to strengthen the G-24’s influence in international negotiations. Furthermore, Cardoso revealed that Nigeria will unveil a strategic Work Programme following consultation with member states, focusing on fostering dialogue and driving global financial reforms.
