2

A major new podcast, “Fela Kuti: Fear No Man,” produced by Radiolab’s Jad Abumrad and presented by Audible and Barack Obama’s Higher Ground, is set to dive deep into the complex legacy of the legendary Nigerian musician and Afrobeat pioneer. Through over 200 interviews with family, musicians, and notable figures such as Barack Obama and Ayo Edebiri, the 12-episode series explores how Fela used music as a tool for political resistance. Combining archival recordings and firsthand accounts, the show traces Kuti’s journey from classical musician to revolutionary artist whose music fused funk, jazz, and West African rhythms to challenge political corruption and military rule. It also captures his contradictions as a movement builder, cult leader, and artistic genius whose defiance came at great personal risk. Launching October 15, the podcast highlights Kuti’s enduring influence and Afrobeat’s global impact, celebrating a man whose music was both a weapon and a call for change.
