Ghana is set to broaden its border access, with President John Dramani Mahama announcing visa-free entry for all African travelers starting May 25, 2026. Mahama announced the development after talks with Zimbabwe’s leader Emmerson Mnangagwa, declaring that Ghana, as the “cradle of Pan-Africanism,” has a duty to stay open. Travelers will receive e-visas online at no cost, part of a broader reform that has already led to the signing of 23 visa waiver agreements. The move aims to boost tourism, strengthen trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area, and attract more investors and entrepreneurs. With this move, Ghana now joins a select group of nations like Rwanda, Benin, and The Gambia that welcome all African passport holders. Officials also note that systems are in place to manage demand, positioning the country as a leading hub for mobility and economic opportunity across the continent.
