Ghana has launched an advanced chip-embedded biometric passport that aligns with international civil aviation standards. The new e-passport includes a microprocessor chip that securely stores biometric data, enhancing security and fraud prevention. The passport is designed to streamline verification at global checkpoints, ensuring quicker processing times for Ghanaian citizens. According to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, standard passport applications will take 15 days, while expedited ones will take 24 hours. To improve accessibility, Ghana’s passport offices will operate 24/7, ensuring round-the-clock service. Furthermore, the new passport system is integrated with the National Identification Authority’s database for seamless identity verification. This move showcases Ghana’s commitment to digital innovation and improving service delivery.
