International Criminal Court Reveals Investigation into Possible War Crimes in Sudan

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has revealed it is investigating allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Sudanese city of al-Fashir, North Darfur. The ICC, which can prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, initiated this investigation based on credible allegations. In a statement on Tuesday, the court’s chief prosecutor Karim Khan highlighted concerns about ethnically-motivated attacks against civilians, widespread use of rape, and assaults on hospitals amidst ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Khan urged individuals with evidence, including video or audio material, to contact his office. Al-Fashir, home to over 1.8 million residents and displaced people, has become a new front in Sudan’s rebel war.
