Kenya’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) have reaffirmed their partnership to strengthen the country’s medicines regulatory system ahead of a key global assessment.
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni hosted a WHO delegation led by Acting Representative Dr. Adiele Onyeze to review Kenya’s progress and preparations for an upcoming WHO onsite verification mission. The evaluation will examine measures by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) to improve inspections, pharmacovigilance, digital systems, and inter-agency collaboration.
Achieving WHO’s Maturity Level 3 status would mark Kenya as a well-functioning regulator capable of ensuring medicines are consistently safe, effective, and of good quality.
The PS highlighted ongoing efforts to equip the PPB with technical resources, training, and institutional support. The meeting was attended by PPB board chair Dr. John Munyu, CEO Dr. Fred Siyoi, and senior ministry officials.
