Morocco launches youth-focused reforms amid social protests

2

In a direct response to recent youth-led protests, the Moroccan government has unveiled a sweeping reform package designed to boost youth participation in politics and improve vital social services. The government plans to ease eligibility rules for candidates under 35, provide financial support for campaigns, and strengthen political party transparency, while encouraging greater involvement from women and young people. Simultaneously, a new draft finance bill pledges significant investment in public education and healthcare, two sectors that have been central to public discontent. This initiative, supported by the royal cabinet, aims to create over 27,000 jobs in these fields, upgrade hospital infrastructure, and expand the pre-school system, among other initiatives. The government’s strategy represents a concerted effort to address social inequalities and channel the energy of a new generation into the political process, hoping to foster greater stability and meet the demands for a more equitable society.
