The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) draw, held in Rabat, Morocco, has set the stage for Africa’s premier football competition. The tournament will kick off on December 21, with hosts Morocco playing Comoros in the opening match. The defending champions Ivory Coast were placed in Group F alongside Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique. Nigeria, runners-up to Ivory Coast, will face Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania in Group C. Meanwhile, regional rivalries will spice up Group B, which features three southern African nations – South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe – and Egypt. War-torn Sudan will compete in Group E against Algeria, while Senegal, which won the 2019 edition, is in Group D with DR Congo. The tournament, running until January 18, 2026, will see 24 teams battling for the trophy, with the top two teams in each group and the four best third-placed teams advancing to the knockout stages.
